Who are the typical users of Hotjar?

Hotjar’s typical users are web professionals who want to understand what’s happening on their site from the perspective of their visitors. This includes designers, developers, product managers, marketers, and anyone else who wants to improve their website or app.

What are the benefits of using Hotjar?

Hotjar is an excellent tool for analytics and tracking user experience. It allows website owners to get a comprehensive understanding of how people interact with their site. The features are plentiful and the interface is very user-friendly, making it a great choice for those who want an easy-to-use solution. With continuous recording options, there’s no need to delete or manage video sessions, and you can use the Ask feature to gather feedback from users.

There are many benefits to using Hotjar, but some of the most popular include:

Improved user experience

By understanding how users interact with your site, you can make changes to improve the overall experience. This can lead to increased conversions and happier customers.

You can see exactly where your visitor moves the mouse on your website. You can understand better the UX and improve your website communication.

Increased sales

By making changes to improve the user experience, you can also increase sales. By making it easier for users to find what they are looking for and eliminating any confusion, you can make it more likely that they will make a purchase.

Better customer retention

Happy customers are more likely to stick around. By understanding what your customers want and need, you can make changes to keep them coming back.

It has mainly helped me to understand where the new or old users are dropping off or which part of the content on the landing page is more engaging with the customer and which are not hence you can make changes accordingly and test them again.

Improved SEO

Satisfied users are more likely to share your site with others, which can lead to increased traffic and improved SEO.

The ability to create and share heatmaps or screen recordings while adhering to GDPR and privacy policies is incredibly helpful. It’s gotten better at reducing privacy issues so you can monitor user behavior and trends easily.

Improved Ads

Hotjar is one of the best platforms for user and customer behavior that I have used throughout my career. The details are important as they help you understand what works and doesn’t work with your website users.

WordPress friendly

As I am using WordPress, installing and setting up Hotjar on my website was very easy. I got live with Hotjar is just not more than 5 min. The whole setup process was very easy. We can see the recordings of the users and how they went to our websites. We can see their clicks, where they wait for, almost everything. We can see the recording for new users, returning users as well as mobile users also. There is also one feature for heatmaps that see heatmaps of the users very accurately.

What are the disadvantages of using Hotjar?

While there are many advantages to using Hotjar, there are a few disadvantages to consider as well:

It can be intrusive

Hotjar tracks user behavior on your site, which can be considered intrusive. While this data is anonymized and cannot be used to identify individual users, some people may still consider it a privacy concern.

Hotjar still does not provide its users with 100% realistic data. Sometimes the heatmaps provided can be flawed and it can do damage if you consider Hotjar data as the only data to understand your user journey on a website.

It can slow down your site

Hotjar uses JavaScript to track user behavior, which can slow down your site. This is not a major concern for most sites, but it is something to keep in mind.

Unable to monitor embedded iframes. The configuration of embedded iframes is complicated but in the end, it works. Also should provide entire website heatmaps which can make it easier to analyze.

It is not free

Hotjar offers a free plan, but it is limited in terms of features and data. If you want to use Hotjar to its full potential, you will need to upgrade to a paid plan.

The Customer Support is not that good. I have contacted them multiple times for various issues and they take a long time to reply or don’t bother to reply at all most of the time.

What is the difference between a page view and a visitor?

A page view is counted when a page on your website is loaded by a visitor. A visitor is counted when someone visits your website for the first time (or after being inactive for 30 minutes).

Conclusion

Overall, Hotjar is a great tool with some flaws which can be overlooked. The features offered by Hotjar are very good and helpful. The pricing is also very reasonable. I would recommend Hotjar to anyone who wants to understand their website users better.
